Asma was forced to flee her worn torn county when she was just 17 years old with a child in hand and one on the way. Now, at age 29, she has 4 children under the age of 13. As I work behind my lens and learn more about her life, I am amazed by Asma's grace at such a young age and reminded of my days past. I too am a mother of 4 children, but I am 57 years old, and my children are all in their 20's now, each finding their own way in this interconnected, challenging world we all share. Even though Asma is the same age as my oldest daughter, we share the common thread and bond of motherhood which brings us closer together. I sense that Asma finds comfort as do I in our shared experiences. From the trials and tribulations of taking care of four children to the incredible joy each one brings. Our backgrounds and opportunities are worlds apart, but we share the heavy load of motherhood, the joys and the tears and the need to protect, comfort, teach, inspire, discipline, grow and most important, to dream.
